Practical Musicianship

I also offer lessons in Practical Musicianship. This is another ABRSM exam

• At Grade 5 it's an alternative to Grade 5 theory — you can go on to Grade 6 on your instrument when you've passed this exam
• It involves singing, playing, improvising, noticing differences — no writing!
• It's great for younger musicians who don't want to do Grade 5 theory yet
• Or for anyone who would prefer an aural exam to a written one
• You can do the tests on any instrument, it doesn't have to be piano
• It helps develop aural skills for instrumental exams
• It's fun!

For this exam I'd recommend an extra 15 minutes per week — you can work on Practical Musicianship alongside your piano lessons, gradually building up to Grade 5, then take the exam.

If you are already at Grade 4 standard on any instrument, you could go faster. With an extra half an hour a week of musicianship we would plan to take the Grade 5 musicianship exam in 6 months. Here's the link to the ABRSM website: Practical Musicianship
